Were it Indeed a Subjunctive ...
Claudette Reed-Upton's Notes on the Practical Subjunctive is an excellent look at the use of the subjunctive—the verb form that "expresses what you might call wishful thinking"—and I recommend it highly.
I really enjoy reading your blog and you certainly are good with words, but the colour change after clicking on the link made me go blind for a few seconds. Should have warned us ;)
